The slide is a method of adjusting the price of purchased cattle on shipping day if they are heavier than the weight at which they were contracted.
The sheet below will show how the slide is figured in Western Video Market transactions, Internet transactions and other direct trades. As an example, say you had steers sold at $95.50/cwt with a base weight of 575 and a slide of .08 off at 1 lb. over the base weight. On shipping day, the steers come in weighing 598 lbs net. Since the slide starts at 1lb. over the base weight (575#), that puts them 23 lbs into the slide. You multiply the slide (.08) times the pounds over (23) and you come up with $1.84. You subtract that from the selling price of $95.50/cwt and the actual price becomes $93.66/cwt.
